[[PageOutline]] = DBCLS !BioHackathon 2010 = The 3rd DBCLS !BioHackathon for interpreting biological knowledge with Semantic Web technologies will be held during 2010/2/ 8-12 in Japan. * [wiki:Participants] * [wiki:Schedule] * [wiki:Symposium] * [wiki:PosterSession] * [wiki:OpenSpace] * [wiki:Hackathon] * [wiki:MeetingReport] == Objectives == DBCLS is working on the integration of biological resources. To achieve this goal, we have been organizing !BioHackathons since 2008 to survey existing efforts and develop integrated environments with open source software and public services. Themes of the hackathons evolved year by year, and we are continuously providing cutting edge developers with opportunities to gather for utilizing state of the art technologies to emerging demands in life sciences. * 2008 : Towards interoperable web services in life science with Open Bio* libraries * 2009 : Integration of web services in bioinformatics applications * 2010 : Interpretation of biological knowledge with the Semantic Web technologies Facing to unprecedented amount and variety of biomedical data, it is required to consolidate related information and facilitate efficient interpretation of the accumulated biological knowledge. Therefore, we selected the Semantic Web as its main theme this year. Topics may include but not limited to: * [wiki:Queries] * Targeted queries to be resolved by the Semantic Web technologies. * [wiki:Datasets] * List currently available and/or still missing datasets (as Linked Data / RDF) to resolve the above queries. * [wiki:Stores] * Develop our own or survey existing extensible storage systems for RDF triples and functional query interfaces. * [wiki:Tools] * Develop common APIs among Open Bio* projects for RDF stores and SPARQL endpoints. * Develop a set of programs including loaders and converters for RDF data. * Develop supporting text mining systems and end-user applications. == About the Hackathon == The hackathon (hacking + marathon) basically is a camp where invited participants discuss current issues and implement software to solve them on site collaboratively. This kind of meeting is very effective for the intensive development of projects, because face-to-face meeting of the developers, who are usually scattered around the world, accelerates their communication and collaboration. !BioHackathon 2010 is sponsored by Database Center for Life Science ([http://dbcls.rois.ac.jp/en/ DBCLS]) and Computational Biology Research Center ([http://www.cbrc.jp/index.eng.html CBRC]). DBCLS is a national center responsible for sustainable life science databases in Japan and CBRC is a national research organization for bioinformatics. * DBCLS !BioHackathon 2010 http://hackathon3.dbcls.jp/ * DBCLS !BioHackathon 2009 http://hackathon2.dbcls.jp/ * DBCLS !BioHackathon 2008 http://hackathon.dbcls.jp/ * DBCLS http://dbcls.rois.ac.jp/en/ == Domestic announcements == ! * [wiki:Registration 参加登録] == Venue == 2010/2/8 @ [http://www.cbrc.jp/eng/map.eng.html CBRC] (Odaiba, Tokyo) * for the 1st day (Symposium and banquet) 2010/2/9-12 @ [http://dbcls.rois.ac.jp/en/access/index.html DBCLS] (Nezu, Tokyo) * rest of the days (hack, hack, hack) Housing * [http://www.forest-hongo.com/English/HotelInformation.htm Hotel Forest Hongo] ([http://www.forest-hongo.com/English/HotelInformation-map.htm Access map] / [http://maps.google.co.jp/maps?f=q&hl=ja&geocode=&q=%E6%9D%B1%E4%BA%AC%E9%83%BD%E6%96%87%E4%BA%AC%E5%8C%BA%E6%9C%AC%E9%83%B76-16-4&sll=35.693012,139.622626&sspn=0.021017,0.027208&ie=UTF8&z=16&g=%E6%9D%B1%E4%BA%AC%E9%83%BD%E6%96%87%E4%BA%AC%E5%8C%BA%E6%9C%AC%E9%83%B76-16-4&iwloc=addr Google map] - use street view) * [http://www.homeikan.com/ Houmeikan Inn] -- recommended for domestic participants (incl. students) * [http://dir.u-tokyo.ac.jp/en/usefulinfo/housing/shukusha/mukougaokafaculty.html Mukogaoka faculty house] in the University of Tokyo campus ([http://maps.google.co.jp/maps/ms?hl=ja&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=35.717088,139.762074&spn=0.001969,0.003439&z=18&msid=102948578779831282941.0004775a37482b3260941 Google map]) * [http://dir.u-tokyo.ac.jp/en/usefulinfo/housing/shukusha/sanjo.html Sanjokaikan faculty house] in the University of Tokyo campus ([http://www.u-tokyo.ac.jp/campusmap/cam01_00_02_e.html Access map] / [http://maps.google.co.jp/maps/ms?hl=ja&ie=UTF8&msa=0&ll=35.712057,139.762359&spn=0.015088,0.026436&z=15&msid=102948578779831282941.0004505f8268c1afa00ed Google map]) -- for the group from Korea Access -- see also the "Transportation in Tokyo" section below * From [http://www.narita-airport.jp/ Tokyo Narita International Airport] * Narita airport station -> Keisei Ueno station (75 min, 1000 JPY by Keisei line; 60 min, 1920 JPY by Keisei Skyliner) * Take a taxi from Ueno station to your hotel (or to DBCLS) * From [http://www.tokyo-airport-bldg.co.jp/en/ Tokyo Haneda Airport] -- for the group from Korea * Haneda airport station -> Hamamatsucho station (20 min, 470 JPY by Tokyo monorail line) * Hamamatsucho station -> Ueno station (10 min, 160 JPY by JR line) * Take a taxi to the Sanjokaikan faculty house in University of Tokyo Annotated Google Maps and KML file for Google Earth are available: * [http://bit.ly/bh10map Google Maps for the BioHackathon 2010] * [http://hackathon3.dbcls.jp/attachment/wiki/WikiStart/biohackathon2010-locations.kmz KML file for Google Earth] == Communication == Mailing list * biohack3 (at) kml.dbcls.jp ([http://kml.dbcls.jp/mailman/listinfo/biohack3 Subscribe], [http://kml.dbcls.jp/pipermail/biohack3/ Archive]) Live streaming * http://www.ustream.tv/channel/biohackathon2010 Official hash tag * #biohackathon2010 -- official hash tag for [http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23biohackathon2010&lang=all twitter], citeulike and so on.
